Find Autauga County Court Cases

Autauga County criminal court cases are split among Circuit Court, District Court, and the city courts that keep their own municipal files. A search for Autauga County criminal court cases should begin with the court that handled the charge, then move to the clerk when a remote docket is incomplete. Court files track a prosecution from the filed charge through hearings, rulings, disposition, and sentence. They do not serve the same purpose as a booking entry or a statewide fingerprint record. Careful case review depends on the case number, the right division, and the final order.

Autauga County Criminal Court Cases

The Autauga Circuit Court is the felony trial court. It also hears appeals from District Court, municipal courts, Probate Court, and certain boards. The Autauga District Court handles state misdemeanors, state traffic matters, felony preliminary hearings, and some non-capital felony pleas. Both court files are kept by the Autauga Circuit Clerk. This split tells a searcher which criminal division to call and which docket should contain the public case action summary.

Municipal prosecutions remain with the city court unless an appeal reaches Circuit Court. Prattville Municipal Court handles matters within Prattville's lawful city jurisdiction, while Millbrook Municipal Court keeps its own city docket. A police report, jail booking, and criminal case file are also separate records. Once a charge becomes a filed prosecution, the Autauga County court record is the source for pleas, motions, rulings, disposition, and sentence. The related Autauga County arrest lookup is useful for the earlier custody layer, but it cannot replace the final court file.

Autauga County Criminal Clerk

The Autauga Circuit Clerk keeps Circuit and District criminal records at 134 North Court Street in Prattville. Circuit Criminal and District Criminal/Traffic are both in Room 117. Call Circuit Criminal at 334-358-6807 for a felony file or Circuit appeal. Call District Criminal/Traffic at 334-358-6802 for a state misdemeanor, traffic case, or felony preliminary matter. The main clerk line is 334-358-6800 or 334-358-6801. This direct division route is the best fallback for an older, archived, missing, or image-incomplete record.

Give the clerk a case number when possible. If it is unknown, provide the party name, an approximate filing year, and enough non-sensitive detail to separate similar names. Ask whether the file is available for public inspection and whether the needed order or case action summary can be copied or certified. Statewide standard fees are $0.25 per page for files under 20 pages, $0.50 for each page after 20, and $5 for certification. Autauga County did not publish a separate archived-file or local search fee, so confirm the total before ordering.

Inside an Autauga County Case File

An Autauga County case-detail report can include basic case information, current status, setting dates, parties, financial history, actions and rulings, and a detailed case action summary. Available documents and attachments are sold separately from the detail. A searcher should treat the chronological summary as an index, then read the filed order that states the result. The charge caption identifies an allegation or charge at one stage. It does not, by itself, show whether the case ended in dismissal, acquittal, plea, trial conviction, or another disposition.

Reading Autauga County Case Numbers

A court case number belongs to one prosecution. It is not the same as a jail booking number, an Alabama SID, or a fingerprint transaction control number. The booking number tracks one jail intake. The SID connects a fingerprint-identified subject to the state repository. The transaction control number identifies one fingerprint submission. Mixing these identifiers can send a request to the wrong office and can cause a searcher to join records that do not belong together.

Start with the case number printed on a court notice, bond paper, or clerk record. If only a booking number is known, ask the jail or arresting agency for the related court case information, then verify the division with the clerk. A filed Autauga County criminal case may also have a different charge than the booking entry because prosecutors can amend, replace, dismiss, or decline arrest-stage allegations. The case action summary and final order provide the best court-level answer.

Disposition
The recorded result of a charge or case.
Nolle prosequi
A prosecutor's decision not to proceed with the charge at that time.
No-bill
A grand jury's decision not to return an indictment on the proposed felony charge.
Arraignment
The hearing where the accused is told the charge and enters a plea.

How a Criminal Case Moves

An Autauga County prosecution may begin with an arrest or summons and an initial District Court proceeding. A complaint starts many cases. For many felonies, a grand jury later decides whether to return an indictment. A Circuit Court arraignment follows a filed felony charge, then the docket records settings, motions, hearings, and other pretrial work. Some cases end in a plea. Others proceed to trial, judgment, and sentence. An appeal can add a new court layer.

Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing

The online docket shows public events that were entered, not every act by law enforcement or counsel. It may also lag behind a signed order. “Pending” means the court has not recorded a final result. Read through the last public entry and obtain the final order when the exact result matters.

Autauga County Circuit or District Cases

The offense level helps route an Autauga County search. Circuit Court tries felony prosecutions. District Court handles state misdemeanors, state traffic, and preliminary felony work. A felony can therefore appear in District Court during its early stage and later move to Circuit Court after indictment. A municipal ordinance or adopted misdemeanor matter generally begins in the proper city court. An appeal from that municipal case can reach Circuit Court.

This hierarchy prevents a common search error. A missing Circuit result does not prove that no court matter exists. The case may still be in District Court, may belong to Prattville or Millbrook Municipal Court, or may be sealed or otherwise restricted. Prattville Municipal Court can be reached at 334-595-0450. Millbrook Municipal Court is at 3900 Grandview Road and can be reached at 334-285-6475. Ask which court owns the case before paying for repeated searches.

Case Record Access & Restrictions

Alabama court records are generally available for inspection unless a statute, court rule, or order makes them confidential. Rule 104 of the Court-Record Privacy and Confidentiality Rules recognizes that public baseline and its limits. Juvenile records, Youthful Offender material, protected victim details, sealed records, expunged material, and confidential identifiers may be withheld or redacted. Grand-jury proceedings are secret. A missing online result can therefore reflect a restriction, a data delay, or an archive issue rather than the absence of a case.

Alabama Rule of Judicial Administration 33 places electronic court databases under AOC control and supports the registered or subscription access model. The public web view may be narrower than the paper file. Ask the Autauga County clerk whether a public record exists, whether it can be inspected, and which parts can be copied. The clerk can explain access procedure but cannot give legal advice or interpret what a ruling means for a party.

Autauga County Dispositions and ALEA

A court disposition and an ALEA criminal-history entry serve different systems. Autauga County courts send disposition data to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, but a reporting delay or older unautomated file can leave a fingerprint-linked state record without its outcome. When that happens, retrieve the local case action summary and final order from the Circuit Clerk. The clerk record is the direct account of what the Autauga County court entered in that prosecution.

Do not assume that an arrest without an ALEA disposition is a conviction. Dismissal, nolle prosequi, no-bill, acquittal, and conviction have distinct meanings. Likewise, a charge that does not appear on an ALEA self-review may still exist in an arresting agency or court file. The Nineteenth Judicial Circuit District Attorney prosecutes state charges in Autauga, Chilton, and Elmore Counties, but the clerk remains the keeper of the public judicial record. Compare the filed charge to the final disposition before drawing a conclusion.

Note: ALEA personal CHRI review is fingerprint based and is not an unrestricted public name-search service.
